Miles
Hathcock
Miles barely graduated from Tallassee High School
in 1995. He spent the following year just goofing around and enjoying
life as a part time employee at a local pharmacy. “I was having
fun, who needed college or college football at Brown University,”
adds Miles. Well minimum wage and one pair of jeans soon got the
best of him. Miles decided to enter the 13th grade, he enrolled
at Central Alabama Community College and two years later he left
without a degree. “I had the basics down and after taking
an introductory accounting course, I told myself I can do this,”
says Miles. Eventually he made it, he earned his BSBA (accounting)
degree from Auburn University Montgomery (not to be confused with
Auburn University Lee County) and went on to complete graduate school
at AUM as well. He started with the local certified public accounting
firm of Diamond, Roller, Taunton, and Carmichael, P.A. in December
of 2001 and is currently employed with them.
Miles
has one wife, Angie, and two sons, Bruin and Bryant. “I just
don’t see how or why the polygamists do it, they must be crazy,
one wife is enough,” Miles adds jokingly. “If we keep
adding to this family chances are sooner or later one of these kids
is going to look like Angie’s dad, Bill Patterson,”
Miles worriedly states. If you’ve seen Bill you know what
Miles is talking about, it is obvious Angie got her looks from her
mother. Angie also teaches at Tallassee Elementary School.
Miles
enjoyed listening to Doctor Earl Mullins on WTLS as a young boy
growing up. “I miss Dr. Earl, he was a lot of fun and heck
he had the side action of being a DJ for dances and other events,
Starlite as I recall,” recalls Miles. Dr. Earl was a hero
for Miles and Miles wanted to someday get a chance at having the
same fun in the radio business. Miles got his chance to work with
Michael at WTLS during the 2002 Tallassee High football season as
the sideline reporter. Michael went on to allow Miles to appear
on the Wake Up Call as a fill in and help with other THS sports.
Miles went to SEC football media days for football for the first
time in 2005 as a runner. Michael was relieved that Miles did not
pose for pictures or ask for autographs from any of the players
or coaches. Miles is worried that he will not be invited back though,
microphone hog Carl Wayne Mullins is already lobbying for the position
next year. Michael tried to ease Miles’ mind by reminding
him that CW has had a hip replacement (the same surgery that ended
the NFL career of CW’s favorite athlete, Bo Jackson) and that
the position is called runner for a reason. Miles is a co-host of
the Wake Up Call, the sideline reporter at WTLS for THS football,
and sports director for WTLS.
