Gary
Buchanan
Gary
Buchanan is usually the guy who gets called when nobody else is
available as a fill-in on The Wake-Up Call. He can be heard
during high school sports broadcasts as well. Gary became a part
of the Tallassee Tigers broadcast team in 2006. Shortly after, WTLS
was presented the coveted, “Station of the Year” award.
Gary’s response to the timing of the honor, “Things
that make you go hmmm.”
Gary’s
earliest affiliation with WTLS began by recording Marine Police
spots. He’s been with the Marine Police since 1995. “My
most famous moment was standing up (Michael Butler) on the 4th of
July several years ago,” Gary joked. “I don't think
my career has recovered.”
Gary’s
“Glory Days” were in the Gadsden area. Cue the Bruce
Springsteen music. He graduated from Coosa Christian High School
in 1985. The Conquerors won three straight Christian School state
baseball championships, two Christian school state football championships,
and a Christian school national tournament championship. Gary went
on to play baseball at Gadsden State Community College.
Gary
is married to Barbara (most folks call her Barbie). They met while
at Auburn University. Gary was a Bama fan then too. They have two
kids, Lauren and Brett. They are members at First Baptist Church
in Tallassee. Gary sings an excellent version of “I Can Only
Imagine.”
