Michael Butler

Michael has been a part of WTLS since his infancy. “One of my earliest memories is recording a “Punt, Pass and Kick” spot with my father and sister at about the age of six.” Michael began a regular schedule as a “disc jockey” at age 13. “I’ve had other real jobs, which was enough to keep me in this business. This is not real work. I guess that’s why I’ve always loved it.”

Michael received a broadcasting degree at the University of Alabama in 1994. He worked at both campus radio stations there. Afterwards, he moved to Huntsville as an air personality on WRSA-FM. Michael was operations manager of Sports Radio 740, AM 950 and WHHY 1440 while in Montgomery and worked on the air with the likes of Jim Fyffe and Roger Shultz. He also hosted the weekly television show, “Focus on Football,” as well as “The Rob Spivery Show,” with the former Alabama State head basketball coach. Michael served on the Faulkner Sports Network and was the play-by-play voice for Huntingdon Hawks Basketball. He has also been part of the state finals network during championship coverage of Alabama High School Athletic Association broadcasts.

In 1999, Michael came back to take over duties as owner and operator of WTLS. The station relocated to the Tallassee Industrial Park in 2000 on seven acres of land banking the Tallapoosa River. Michael received the "Business Person of the Year" in 2004 from the Tallassee Chamber of Commerce. In 2007, Michael and wife Leigh Anne were recognized at the first Abby Awards by the Alabama Broadcasters Association as WTLS received "Station of the Year" honors. Michael and Leigh Anne, married in 1998 have two children; Georgia Anne and Jack, as well as two pets: P.J. & Kitty.
